Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Apapa Constituency I ahead of the forthcoming elections.

She polled 2,926 votes to defeat three other contenders in a peaceful exercise conducted with oversight support from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The primary, held at Ijora Oloye Nursery and Primary School in Ijora, started around 1:00 pm amid heavy security presence provided by operatives of the DSS, police, and NSCDC.

Four aspirants contested the party’s sole ticket: Meranda, Esan Adedotun, Mike Egbayelo, and Elizabeth Toluwalope.

Meranda arrived at the venue to a warm reception from supporters and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming backing she received.

“I thank you all for the support; it is massive,” she said.

Party leaders and stakeholders described her victory as a reflection of strong grassroots support and her performance in office.

The APC youth leader in Ijora, Adams Aremu, said her projects across the constituency had earned her widespread community approval, particularly in support for small businesses.

Another party executive, Joseph Layode, suggested that her growing influence could position her for higher leadership, saying she “could become the next Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.”

In a related result from earlier ward-level voting across Apapa Constituency I, Meranda reportedly secured 6,062 votes against her closest rival, Ayo Vaughan, who polled 1,385 votes.

In her acceptance message, Meranda dedicated the victory to party members and constituents, describing it as a collective achievement.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every person who believes in our shared vision of progress, unity, and purposeful representation,” she said.

She pledged to continue prioritising peace, development, and effective representation for the people of Apapa Constituency I.
