It was a carnival-like atmosphere in Badagry on Tuesday as a large crowd gathered for the endorsement of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate ahead of the next Lagos State election.

The event attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, and party members, who welcomed a delegation led by the Secretary of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Muti Are.

The delegation included senior APC figures such as Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Ogboni Fouad Oki, Alhaji Bode Oyedele, and Dr. Adekunle Olayinka.

Speaking on behalf of Hamzat, who was absent, Obanikoro thanked supporters for their backing of the party and its consensus arrangement.

He also praised other aspirants, including Mr. Samuel Ajose from the Badagry Division, who reportedly stepped down for Hamzat.

“By obeying the leadership of the party, Ajose has demonstrated the ‘Omoluabi ethos’,” Obanikoro said, commending his loyalty and humility.

During the event, Obanikoro announced the donation of two boats and 100 life jackets to schools in Badagry as part of efforts to improve safety for pupils who rely on waterways for transportation.

The initiative, he said, reflects Hamzat’s concern for the welfare and security of schoolchildren in riverine communities.

Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Babatunde Hunpe, praised the APC leadership for its support and expressed confidence in the party’s continued dominance in the area.

He assured residents that they would benefit from ongoing development efforts and pledged strong local support for the party.

The rally highlighted growing political mobilisation within Lagos State as party stakeholders align ahead of future electoral contests.
