The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki is set to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential aspirant on Tuesday ahead of its upcoming primaries.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party confirmed that all aspirants across various elective positions would undergo screening at 10 a.m. as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to the statement, a total of 2,122 state House of Assembly aspirants, 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, 112 governorship aspirants, and one presidential aspirant are expected to be screened.

Although the PDP faction did not publicly disclose the identity of the lone presidential hopeful, a party source confirmed that Jonathan is the only individual listed for the exercise.

The screening committee comprises 14 members, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, and former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi.

Other committee members include prominent PDP figures such as Olabode George, Babangida Aliyu, and Maryam Ciroma, among others.

The party said the committee was approved during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its 104th session.

It added that the screening exercise is in line with the party’s guidelines and timetable for the 2027 general elections.

The development comes amid ongoing internal restructuring within the PDP faction as it prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive election cycle.
