Bala Mohammed has officially entered the race for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor picked up his nomination form on Thursday in Abuja shortly after attending his first National Executive Committee meeting of the party.

The meeting was presided over by APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle alongside other senior party stakeholders.
Speaking during the meeting, Mohammed criticised what he described as undemocratic practices and political intimidation in Nigeria’s political system, saying such actions have made political participation difficult for many progressive leaders and movements.
The governor stated that the APM shares similar values with his political ideology, especially in the areas of good governance, justice, inclusiveness, internal democracy and respect for the rule of law. He said these principles influenced his decision to join the party.
Mohammed also disclosed that several prominent figures from the People’s Democratic Party moved with him to the APM. According to him, the group includes lawmakers from the National Assembly, members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, commissioners, party executives and grassroots supporters.
He described the development as more than an individual defection, saying it represents a broader political movement aimed at strengthening the APM across the country.
The governor’s decision to contest for the Senate seat comes days after he resigned from the PDP, where he previously served as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Before becoming governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed represented Bauchi South Senatorial District in the Senate after winning the seat in 2007 under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party.
He was later appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in 2010 before defecting to the PDP.
