Victor Osimhen is racing against time to be fit for Galatasaray’s high-stakes Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on Sunday, as the Nigerian striker continues recovery from an arm injury that has kept him out for about a month.
The forward has returned to full training with Galatasaray and completed a full session on Monday, according to club updates, marking a significant step in his rehabilitation process.
Despite his progress, reports from Turkey suggest he may still feature in Wednesday’s Turkish Cup quarter-final against Gençlerbirliği SK, although the club’s primary focus remains his availability for the derby.
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk is reportedly preparing two tactical plans depending on Osimhen’s fitness, particularly in relation to a possible attacking partnership with Mauro Icardi.
Turkish journalist Süleyman Rodop said Osimhen will undergo a late fitness test on Friday to determine whether he can participate.
Another reporter, Kaya Temel, noted that the striker is determined to play but his starting status will depend on final medical and physical assessments in the coming days.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a permanent €75 million deal last summer and has made a strong impact, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists in 19 league appearances.
He has also netted seven goals in the UEFA Champions League, underlining his importance to the Turkish champions’ European campaign.
At present, he trails teammate Mauro Icardi in the club scoring charts, with Icardi leading on 13 goals in 27 matches.
With only five league matches remaining, Osimhen’s potential return would provide a major boost to Galatasaray’s title ambitions as they prepare for one of the most decisive fixtures of the season.
