The Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has pledged his administration’s continued support for the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), describing the company’s success as integral to both the state and national economy.
Fubara made the remarks on Wednesday during a courtesy visit with the new NLNG Managing Director and CEO, Adeleye Falade, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“Our duty is to make sure that we support whoever is operating in our state. If we don’t support you and you don’t succeed, we also will not succeed, and Mr President will also not succeed. The success of your establishment is the success of our state and Nigeria,” the governor said.
He assured that his administration would continue to liaise with NLNG to provide necessary support and maintain a collaborative relationship, adding that prior support extended to NLNG by previous management would be sustained.
Fubara attributed the company’s resilience and steady growth to its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) structure, noting that NLNG is jointly owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (49%), Shell Gas B.V. (25.6%), Total LNG Nigeria Ltd (15%), and Eni International (10.4%). He emphasized that entrusting operational control to multinational companies while retaining a supervisory role has been key to NLNG’s stability over three decades.
“I’m very proud to say that if there is one establishment that has shown resilience and survived political challenges in this country, it is the NLNG. Government has no business in business. Let the government supervise, ensure compliance, and let experts operate the business,” Fubara said.
Speaking at the meeting, NLNG CEO Adeleye Falade thanked the Rivers State Government for its ongoing support and highlighted the company’s efforts in host communities, including Amadi-ama, Abua, Ekpeye, Okrika, Kalabari, and Emohua.
Falade noted that NLNG continues to invest in local enterprise through initiatives such as the Vocational Innovation and Business Empowerment Scheme (VIBES) and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) programs, which aim to build capacity, support small businesses, and create sustainable impact across the state.
