Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on Christopher Musa to take decisive action following the latest wave of killings in Plateau State.
In a post shared on her Facebook page on Monday, the senator urged the minister to move beyond assurances and deliver tangible security outcomes.
“Dear General Christopher Musa… Angwan Rukuba is another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected. During your screening at the Senate chambers, your words were filled with promises, and I allowed myself a sigh of relief… at last, I thought. Well, prove NOW you are different and secure lives, or step aside. Enough of condolences. Enough of excuses. Nigerians want action, protection, and results,” she wrote.
Her statement follows a deadly attack on Sunday night in Angwan Rukuba and surrounding communities in Jos North Local Government Area, where gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on residents. Witnesses described over 20 assailants shooting indiscriminately at a busy junction, an open-air bar, and nearby residential areas, leaving scores dead and many others injured.
“The attackers just rode past and started shooting sporadically. People were running in different directions,” a resident said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The attack comes weeks after more than 20 security operatives and vigilantes were reportedly killed in an ambush by heavily armed bandits in Wanka and surrounding communities in Kanam Local Government Area.
The violence has heightened tension in the region, with some youths blocking major roads in protest.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the Sunday attack as “barbaric and unprovoked,” convened emergency security meetings, and visited affected areas, assuring residents that perpetrators would face justice. The state government also imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to prevent further escalation and restore order.
The incident adds to a series of violent attacks across Plateau and neighbouring states, where communities continue to face killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, highlighting persistent security challenges in the North-Central region.
