Ghana Football Association announced on Tuesday the dismissal of coach Otto Addo, just over 70 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The decision came hours after Ghana suffered a 2-1 friendly defeat to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, with the hosts needing a last-minute goal from Deniz Undav to secure victory.

The loss marked the fourth consecutive defeat under Addo’s leadership, following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria last week.

“The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the GFA said in a statement. It added that the federation will “communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”

Addo, 50, had been in charge of the Black Stars since March 2024. Ghana is drawn in a challenging World Cup group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The GFA’s move reflects growing concerns over the team’s form just weeks before the global tournament.
