Ahead of his scheduled trip to Maiduguri, Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed deep grief over the deaths of 25 people in multiple explosions across the city on Monday.

Speaking on Tuesday at the closing of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque, VP Shettima prayed for the souls of the victims, asking Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus and provide their families with the fortitude to bear the loss.

“May Allah bring this madness to an end. No religion sanctions the killing of the innocent. Whatever is motivating them, may Allah either guide them to the right path or vanish them from the surface of the earth,” he said, according to a statement by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha.

The Vice President stressed the importance of prayer for the nation and for wisdom, courage, and equity for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his team. He highlighted the lessons of Ramadan, noting that power and status are temporary, and true accountability lies in character and the faithful discharge of responsibilities.

“In the presence of Allah, the distance between the mighty and the unknown vanishes. What remains is character, accountability, and what we did with the trust placed in our hands,” VP Shettima said.

He urged Muslims to carry the teachings of Ramadan into everyday life, beyond the devotional practices of the month, applying mercy, restraint, and service in homes, workplaces, and leadership roles.

VP Shettima also called for reflection on personal and societal conduct, emphasizing that worship without service is incomplete and that Nigeria needs leaders and homes where children experience good examples.

The Vice President paid tribute to Sheikh Abdulwaheed Suleiman Abubakar and his team for conducting the Tafsir with wisdom and calm, noting their prayers for sustainable peace, development, and the success of the Tinubu administration.
