Former Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly criticised the Trump administration’s military action in Iran, accusing President Donald Trump of dragging the United States into what she described as a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble.”
In a statement shared on X on Saturday, Harris positioned herself as a leading critic of the recent US strikes, calling the escalation a “regime-change war” that she said lacks public support.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris wrote.
“Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice,” she added.
Harris argued that the President’s actions contradict earlier campaign promises to avoid new foreign conflicts.
“What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness dressed up as resolve,” she stated.
“During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to end wars rather than start them. It was a lie.”
She also raised constitutional concerns over the authorisation of military force. According to Harris, the President must obtain congressional approval before entering a war.
“Under the Constitution of the United States, the President must receive authorization from Congress to enter a war,” she said.
“But even if he had, that does not change the fact this action is unwise, unjustified, and not supported by the American people.”
Harris called on Congress to exercise its oversight powers to prevent further escalation.
The former Vice President stressed the potential human cost of the conflict. She noted that American troops could face serious risks as tensions intensify.
“Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day,” she concluded.
The White House has not yet issued a formal response to Harris’s remarks.
The statement marks a significant escalation in political opposition as debate continues in Washington over the scope and legality of the administration’s military operations in Iran.
