Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Liverpool over a potential transfer for left-back Andy Robertson, BBC Sport reports.

The 31-year-old Scotland international, whose contract at Anfield expires this summer, recently stated that he is undecided about his future. Robertson is reportedly seeking regular playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Spurs have made an initial approach to Liverpool, but no agreement has been reached at this stage.

This season, Robertson has started just four Premier League matches, with summer signing Milos Kerkez taking over as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back. His most recent appearance came as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Burnley on 17 January.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has emphasised that Robertson remains an important member of the squad and praised his professionalism despite losing his starting role.

Should Robertson leave during this transfer window, Kerkez would be Liverpool’s only senior left-back, although the club could recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma if necessary.

Tottenham, meanwhile, recently completed the signing of Brazilian left-back Souza and already have options in the position. Destiny Udogie has been Thomas Frank’s preferred left-back this season, with Djed Spence providing cover.

The club has, however, been left short of experience after Ben Davies was ruled out for the rest of the season following a broken ankle sustained on Sunday. Davies, 32, is currently Tottenham’s only player over the age of 30.

Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million under former manager Jürgen Klopp. He has made 363 appearances for the club, winning nine major trophies including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
