The Kano State Police Command has arrested a nephew of a murdered housewife alongside two other suspects in connection with the killing of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation ordered by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and carried out under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Disclosing this in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated overnight sting operation.

He identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives arrested three principal suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children,” Kiyawa said.

According to him, the operation, which lasted between 10:00 pm on January 17 and 4:00 am on January 18, 2026, led to the arrest of Umar Auwalu, who was described as the ringleader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased woman.

“The suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that the same group had been involved in a series of violent attacks and killings in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters,” the police spokesman added.

Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club locally known as gora, and some amount of money allegedly stolen from the victims.

Kiyawa said investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

He also commended the officers involved in the operation and appreciated members of the public for their support and cooperation, reaffirming the commitment of the Kano State Police Command to ensuring justice and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
