Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has attributed his standout performances in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to the strong bond and teamwork within the Nigerian squad.

The 29-year-old has been one of Nigeria’s key players in the tournament, controlling the midfield, creating scoring opportunities, and helping the team dominate games. His calmness, vision, and ability to set up chances have made him a favourite among fans.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of Nigeria’s semifinal clash with host nation Morocco on Wednesday, Iwobi said the camaraderie among players allows him to play freely and express himself on the field.

“For me, I think the difference is the feeling of brotherhood and family we built together,” Iwobi said. “Even in previous AFCONs, we did well, but we were younger and still learning about each other. Now, everyone is in their prime, performing well for their clubs, and there’s joy and chemistry when we play for our country.”

He emphasised that the teamwork extends beyond the pitch, noting that the sense of unity starts with the coaching staff and spreads to every player in the squad.

“The teamwork inside the camp, which comes from both the players and the coaches, has been really important for Nigeria’s success. There’s a big family. And you can see it on the pitch because we fight for each other. It brings out the best not just in me but in all the players too,” Iwobi added.

The Super Eagles are set to face Morocco in the AFCON semifinals on Wednesday, aiming to leverage their cohesion and collective strength to reach the final.
