President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in the newly appointed Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf, alongside two commissioners of the agency and five Federal Permanent Secretaries.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House, Abuja, shortly before the President presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber at exactly 1:31 pm.
After the formal reading of citations, the five permanent secretaries — Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Dr John Ezeamama, Dr Abdul-Sule Garba, Dr Isiaku Mohammed, and Dr Ukaire Chigbowu — took their oaths of office at 1:42 pm and signed the official register.
At 1:47 pm, Dr Aminu Yusuf, who was appointed as NPC chairman on October 9, was sworn in alongside two members of the commission, including Dr Tonga Betara from Yobe State.
The National Population Commission is responsible for conducting national censuses, managing vital registration, and providing demographic data essential for national development planning.
Following the swearing-in, the Federal Executive Council observed a minute of silence in honour of a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Joy Ogwu, who died on October 13, 2025, at the age of 79. The council then proceeded with its eighth meeting of the year.
