Kwankwaso demands urgent probe as kidnappings, killings escalate nationwide

Ex-Kano governor condemns Kebbi school abductions, Borno general’s killing and fresh bandit attacks in North-West.

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Federal Government to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the worsening insecurity across Nigeria following a surge in kidnappings and deadly attacks by armed groups.

In a statement shared on his verified X account on Wednesday, Kwankwaso condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirlsfrom the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, after gunmen reportedly invaded the school on motorcycles, exchanged gunfire with security personnel, and escaped with the victims.

Kwankwaso also expressed deep concern over the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, describing the incident as “a dark mark” on Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations. He called for a thorough investigation into possible security and intelligence lapses that may have enabled the attack.

The former governor further lamented a series of mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, describing them as “truly heartbreaking.” He urged authorities to intensify efforts to rescue all abducted victims and restore security to affected communities.

Kwankwaso drew attention to additional attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano State, where repeated episodes of violence continue to unsettle residents. He noted that in one incident, bandits killed three villagers after crossing from Katsina State, while in another, two nursing mothers were abducted from the Faruruwa community in Shanono.

“These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” he said, calling for a renewed federal strategy that strengthens the armed forces and empowers the Nigeria Police Force to protect citizens effectively.

While commending the Kano State Government for donating vehicles to security agencies, Kwankwaso stressed that more robust measures are needed to prevent further attacks.

The Kebbi State Police Command has since confirmed that 25 students were abducted during Monday’s attack on the Maga secondary school, while the Vice Principal was reportedly killed during the raid.
