Tinubu implementing far-reaching measures to combat terrorism – Minister

Minister Dele Alake says President Bola Tinubu’s administration is adopting military, socio-economic, and diplomatic strategies to tackle insecurity nationwide.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is implementing far-reaching measures to combat terrorism in Nigeria through a combination of military action, socio-economic initiatives, and regional diplomacy.

Alake made this known during a joint news conference organised by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, on Wednesday in Abuja.

He explained that insecurity in the country did not begin under President Tinubu’s administration but emphasised that the current government has taken unprecedented steps to address the challenge head-on.

“From the actions taken so far — from the plethora of measures — if such were implemented ten years ago, we probably would not be where we are today,” Alake stated.

The minister highlighted the restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture, including recent changes in the leadership of security agencies, as part of ongoing efforts to reinvigorate the fight against terrorism and banditry.

“The changes made in 2023, and again recently, were deliberate actions aimed at re-injecting new enthusiasm and energy into the fight against insecurity,” he said.

Alake stressed that the Tinubu-led administration’s approach stems from strategic planning and coordination, which are beginning to yield positive results.

He noted that compared to the last decade, the security situation has improved significantly under Tinubu’s leadership, adding that there was no evidence of deliberate targeting of any religious group.

“Sometimes, when terrorists attack, it is not because of religion but due to economic or political reasons. Using religion to define these acts is misleading and does not reflect the reality on the ground,” he added.

The minister also called on the media to play a responsible role in nation-building by highlighting the successes of the armed forces rather than amplifying negative stories.

“The media must stop propagating wrong narratives about the country. Instead, it should showcase the sacrifices and achievements of our military personnel,” Alake urged.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace, security, and stability, ensuring that every Nigerian lives without fear.
