IGP Egbetokun Appoints AIG Nkechi Eze as First Director of Police Medical Services

Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze and urged her to bring her wealth of experience and administrative capacity to bear in ensuring the directorate becomes a model for excellence in police health service delivery.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Nkechi Eze, as the pioneer Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin. The appointment follows the recent elevation of the Nigeria Police Force Medical Section into a full-fledged directorate, aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services for police personnel nationwide.

Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze and urged her to bring her wealth of experience and administrative capacity to bear in ensuring the directorate becomes a model for excellence in police health service delivery.

“AIG Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator who brings over 27 years of exemplary service to her new role,” the statement said.

Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and originally from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.

Her service record spans various police medical formations in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos, where she has been instrumental in strengthening medical support systems and officers’ welfare.

The Inspector-General noted that the establishment of the Directorate of Force Medical Services reflects a strategic prioritisation of personnel well-being, which he described as central to improving the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.
