Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Cole Palmer will be available for selection when the Blues face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Maresca told Chelsea’s website that the England international had no fitness concerns despite the midweek defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
“Yes, Cole is okay. We have a training session now where we will look at the players. We flew back yesterday [from Munich], so we need to assess some of the guys before we make a decision for the weekend,” he explained.
The Italian tactician admitted that the short turnaround between fixtures has left some players in doubt, with final decisions set to be taken after Friday’s training session. “We haven’t had a session since the game on Wednesday, we have some doubts but we will see after today’s training session,” he added.
One player who could bolster Chelsea’s attacking options is Marc Guiu, who was recalled earlier this month from his loan spell at Sunderland following Liam Delap’s injury.
“Marc Guiu is back and the reason why he is back is because we intend to use him,” Maresca confirmed. “He is a good player and while he needs to do things better and can still improve, we know what Marc can offer us. For sure, we are going to use him.”
Chelsea will be hoping to bounce back with a strong performance in Manchester as they look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
