The Adamawa State Police Command has launched investigations into two separate cases of culpable homicide stemming from domestic violence in Madagali and Gombi local government areas.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the first incident occurred in Pallam District, Madagali. Preliminary findings revealed that a violent altercation broke out between two co-wives, Rhoda Anthony (55) and Victoria Anthony (36), both married to one Anthony Pallam.
During the confrontation, Victoria’s 16-year-old son, Ijai Anthony, allegedly struck his stepmother, Rhoda, on the head with a piece of wood. She collapsed immediately. Police officers from the Madagali Division responded swiftly and transported her to the Cottage Hospital, where she was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Both the teenager and his mother have been placed in protective custody as investigations continue.
In another similar incident in Fotta District, Gombi LGA, police received a distress call about a domestic dispute that turned fatal. One Idi Buba reportedly stabbed his father, Buba Jelli, in the neck and back during a heated argument. The father was taken to a Primary Health Care Center in Fotta, where he died from his injuries.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and the murder weapon—a knife—was recovered and logged as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has condemned the rising trend of domestic violence, especially those involving family members. He urged residents to practice restraint and explore peaceful means of resolving conflicts.
Nguroje confirmed that all suspects will face criminal charges once investigations are completed.
