President Tinubu Appoints Ajuri Ngelale as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action

In a strategic move to advance his administration’s climate and green economic initiatives, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Chief Ajuri Ngelale as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action. This appointment is part of the President’s broader effort to drive coordinated climate action and green economic development across Nigeria.

Chief Ngelale will serve as part of the newly established Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions, which will be chaired by President Tinubu himself. The committee is tasked with coordinating and overseeing all policies and programs related to climate action and green economic development. The aim is to foster a whole-of-government approach, ensuring efficient governance and the alignment of all relevant institutions with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda on climate action.

The Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions comprises the following members:

The committee’s primary functions include:

Developing and implementing innovative non-oil and non-gas climate action initiatives.

Coordinating federal institutions’ activities to achieve climate action and green economic objectives.

Collaborating with government entities, subnational governments, NGOs, and civil society to meet climate action goals.

Partnering with national governments and multilateral institutions to support climate action and carbon market ambitions.

Monitoring and guiding federal climate action and renewable energy projects.

Tracking the implementation of Energy Transition Working Group initiatives.

Preparing semi-annual updates on green ambitions and climate action achievements.

Chief Ngelale will continue in his role as the President’s Official Spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media & Publicity while serving on the committee. President Tinubu remains dedicated to achieving Nigeria’s green economy objectives, ensuring a just energy transition, and attracting new investments to secure the nation’s economic future.
