The Federal Ministry of Education has condemned the abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the incidents as tragic and unacceptable.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said attacks on schools and students represent an assault on the nation’s future.
“No child should face fear or violence in pursuit of education. Government remains committed to securing schools and protecting learners nationwide,” the minister said.
He assured that the Federal Government is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of all abducted students.
The minister also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening school safety through improved surveillance systems, emergency response mechanisms, and full implementation of the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools.
According to the ministry, ongoing reforms are aimed at preventing future attacks and improving rapid response to security threats in educational institutions across the country.
The government urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and support ongoing rescue operations.
It also expressed solidarity with the affected families and the governments of Oyo and Borno States as efforts continue to secure the release of the abducted students.
The incidents add to growing concerns over school safety in parts of the country, where armed attacks on educational institutions have remained a recurring challenge.
