The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen to 676, with 136 recorded deaths, according to government data released on Thursday.
The figures, which reflect the situation as of Wednesday, were disclosed by the country’s health minister in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Health authorities say the outbreak continues to evolve, with surveillance and response measures being strengthened in affected areas to contain further spread of the virus.
Ebola, a highly infectious and often deadly disease, spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids. Outbreaks in the DRC have historically placed significant pressure on the country’s already fragile health system.
Officials have not yet released updated details on recovery rates or geographic spread within the country, but response teams are reportedly working to enhance case tracking, treatment, and community awareness campaigns.
The latest figures underscore ongoing concerns about containment, as health agencies continue efforts to limit transmission and reduce fatalities.
