Former Super Eagles captain Kanu Nwankwo joined celebrations after his former club Arsenal were confirmed as 2025/26 Premier League champions on Tuesday night.
Arsenal’s title was sealed after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side with an unassailable lead at the top of the table heading into the final matchday.
The Gunners, who last won the English top-flight in the iconic 2003/04 “Invincibles” season, now sit four points clear of City and are set to officially lift the trophy at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Kanu, a key member of the legendary unbeaten squad, expressed his delight on social media, praising the team’s resilience and determination after a 22-year wait for league glory. He famously contributed during that historic campaign, making 10 appearances as Arsenal completed an unbeaten league season.
The Nigerian forward’s connection to Arsenal remains deeply rooted, having joined the club in 1999 and gone on to make 197 appearances, scoring 44 goals and registering 38 assists before departing in 2004.
In his post, Kanu celebrated the achievement, highlighting the team’s fighting spirit and calling the triumph well deserved, while reflecting on his own memories of lifting the Premier League trophy with the club two decades ago.
Beyond Arsenal, Kanu went on to enjoy a long and successful Premier League career with West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth, finishing with 273 league appearances in England. He remains one of the most experienced Nigerian players in Premier League history.
His trophy-laden career also includes continental and international success, with UEFA Champions League glory at Ajax, UEFA Cup success with Inter Milan, and Olympic gold with Nigeria at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Arsenal’s latest triumph marks a symbolic return to the summit of English football, with former legends like Kanu once again celebrating the club’s return to glory.
