Residents and commuters along the Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Jere in Kaduna State corridor have expressed satisfaction with the introduction of concrete pavement technology on the ongoing Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Super Highway project.

The commendations came as the Presidential Communications Team, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, began an extensive inspection tour on Thursday of major Federal Government infrastructure projects across the North-West.

The tour, conducted in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, commenced with a visit to the completed concrete pavement expressway linking Zuba to Jere, a key section of the Abuja–Kaduna segment of the ambitious super highway project.

The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Super Highway is one of the flagship infrastructure initiatives of the Tinubu administration, designed to improve connectivity, enhance road safety, and stimulate economic activity across northern Nigeria.

The Zuba–Jere section has drawn particular attention due to its transition from traditional asphalt to reinforced concrete pavement, a shift widely described as a more durable solution for high-traffic corridors.

Speaking during the inspection, Mr Onanuga said the exercise was aimed at ensuring accountability, verifying compliance with project specifications, and showcasing ongoing federal infrastructure developments.

“I think every government must endeavour to blow its trumpet, so what we have done is to showcase what the President has done in the last two years and seven months of his administration,” he said.

He added that the administration had undertaken several major projects beyond road infrastructure, urging citizens to recognise ongoing developments across sectors.

The Resident Engineer from the Federal Ministry of Works overseeing the project, Engr. Chukwuma Kalu, confirmed that about 88 kilometres of concrete pavement have been completed from Zuba in the FCT to Jere in Kaduna State. He also noted that the inbound stretch from Kaduna to Jere covers about 21 kilometres.

According to the Senior Project Manager of Infiouest International, Mr Robert Turner, the construction team has engaged over 1,000 Nigerian workers drawn from host communities, including engineers, machine operators, and labourers.

Turner also said the project is progressing under tight coordination with security agencies, including the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigerian Army’s One Division, alongside strong community cooperation.

“In terms of security, we have support… generally, we don’t have any major security threats because we have enjoyed strong community cooperation,” he said.

He added that the contractor is working round the clock, laying between 600 and 700 metres of concrete pavement daily, with Section One targeted for completion as scheduled and Section Two expected by November 2026.

Residents and commuters along the corridor welcomed the development, noting that the durable pavement is expected to withstand heavy traffic, reduce maintenance costs, and improve travel efficiency between Abuja and Kaduna while strengthening links to Kano and other northern states.

The Presidential Media Team reiterated its commitment to transparency and continuous public updates on federal projects, while emphasising accountability in infrastructure delivery under the current administration.
