A plane crash southwest of South Sudan’s capital, Juba, on Monday has claimed the lives of all 14 people on board, according to the country’s civil aviation authority.
The aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink Aviation, was flying from Yei to Juba International Airport when it lost communication shortly after takeoff.
In a statement, the aviation authority said the flight departed at 09:15 local time and lost contact at 09:43, shortly before the crash was reported.
There were 13 passengers and one pilot on board. The victims included 12 South Sudanese nationals and two Kenyan citizens.
Preliminary findings suggest that adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the crash, with low visibility cited as a possible factor. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause, pending a full investigation.
Rescue and recovery operations are expected to continue as aviation officials work to determine what led to the fatal incident.
The crash adds to concerns over aviation safety in the region, where weather conditions and limited infrastructure have previously been identified as operational risks.
