Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally declared her intention to seek a second term in the Senate, setting the stage for early political mobilisation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the next election cycle.
Her declaration was made on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi Central, where party leaders, supporters, and grassroots stakeholders gathered to review the party’s direction in the district.
According to her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko, the meeting served as a platform for consultations and renewed alignment among party faithful across the five local government areas in the senatorial district.
Addressing the gathering, Akpoti-Uduaghan said her decision to run again followed extensive consultations with constituents and encouragement from supporters.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she said, drawing applause from attendees.
Her announcement comes amid growing political activity in Kogi Central, where stakeholders have intensified mobilisation efforts ahead of the next general election.
Party leaders at the event praised her performance in office, with PDP Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, describing her tenure as impactful in terms of infrastructure development and constituency engagement.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has redefined representation in Kogi Central,” he said, adding that her accessibility to constituents has strengthened party unity in the region.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also used the occasion to call for reconciliation within the PDP, urging members to resolve internal differences and strengthen cohesion ahead of future elections.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home,” she said, emphasising unity as key to electoral success.
Her legislative tenure has been marked by advocacy for infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and women-focused initiatives, which supporters say have expanded her political base across party lines.
The senator also acknowledged the support of her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, describing him as a key pillar in her political journey.
With her second-term ambition now officially declared, attention is expected to shift toward internal party dynamics and emerging opposition strategies in the lead-up to the next electoral contest in Kogi Central.
