United States President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon agreed to begin a 10-day ceasefire starting Thursday evening, marking a potential pause in the escalating conflict along the two countries’ border.

Trump said the agreement followed what he described as “excellent” conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

The US president made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, saying both leaders had accepted a temporary truce in an effort to calm tensions.

“These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST,” Trump wrote.

Trump said the ceasefire followed peace talks held in Washington two days earlier between Israeli and Lebanese officials. The negotiations were part of US-led efforts to ease tensions after months of fighting.

The president added that he had tasked key members of his administration to help secure a long-term peace deal.

According to Trump, US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and senior US military officer Dan Caine will work closely with both countries to ensure the ceasefire leads to a lasting settlement.

“It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let’s, GET IT DONE!” Trump wrote.

Despite the announcement, it remains unclear whether Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group operating in Lebanon, has agreed to the ceasefire terms.

The group drew Lebanon deeper into the conflict after launching rockets at Israel in support of its ally, Iran.

The fighting intensified after Israel launched military action against Iran on February 28, triggering wider hostilities across the region.

Since then, Israeli airstrikes and military operations in Lebanon have killed more than 2,000 people and displaced over one million residents, while Israeli ground forces have advanced into southern parts of the country.

Trump said late Wednesday that Aoun and Netanyahu were expected to hold a call on Thursday to further discuss the ceasefire arrangement.

However, as of the time of the announcement, there was no confirmation that the conversation had taken place.

The coming days will likely determine whether the temporary truce holds and if it can lead to a broader peace effort in the Middle East.
