Operations at the domestic terminal of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport were disrupted on Monday after a technical fault affected baggage screening equipment, causing delays for passengers, particularly those flying Air Peace.
In a statement, the airline confirmed that the glitch significantly slowed baggage processing and loading procedures, impacting scheduled departures. “We sincerely regret to inform you of a temporary disruption affecting flight operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Domestic Terminal, specifically impacting baggage processing and loading,” the statement read.
The disruption left many passengers stranded, prompting frustration over extended waiting times. Air Peace traced the issue to a technical fault with baggage screening equipment within the terminal, which hindered normal operational flow.
The airline said alternative screening arrangements had been deployed to keep flights operating safely, though these measures have led to longer processing times. “To minimise disruption, we have proactively activated alternative screening procedures using available equipment to ensure flights continue operating safely. However, these additional steps may result in longer processing times and possible delays to some departures,” the statement said.
Air Peace assured travellers that its personnel were fully engaged in assisting affected passengers and working with airport authorities to resolve the problem promptly. “Our ground teams are fully mobilised and on hand to support passengers, provide updates, and prioritise affected flights. We are also working closely with airport authorities to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and restore normal operations,” the statement added.
The airline apologised for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to minimising the impact on travel plans. “Please be assured that we are doing everything within our control to expedite the process and reduce the impact on your travel plans. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” it concluded.
