A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Gyang Zi, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu in rebuilding the country, which he said had been significantly weakened by previous administrations.
Speaking with journalists in Jos, Zi, who is seeking to represent Plateau North under the All Progressives Congress, attributed Nigeria’s current challenges to decisions made in past political transitions.
He criticised the 2015 change of government, which brought former President Muhammadu Buhari to power, stating that the country experienced major setbacks during that period.
Zi, however, acknowledged that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan recorded progress in areas such as education and poverty reduction, but was undermined by internal and external challenges.
According to him, the years between 2015 and 2023 were marked by economic decline, worsening insecurity, and a weakened education system, which he claimed set Nigeria back significantly.
The legal practitioner praised Tinubu’s leadership style, noting that the current administration is more inclusive in governance and national security representation.
He added that even regions that did not support the President during elections are benefiting from federal attention, particularly in terms of resource allocation and security improvements.
Zi stressed that rebuilding the country requires patience and collective effort, urging citizens to give the current administration time to implement its policies.
“We must give Mr President time. We need patriotic individuals in governance positions for Nigeria to make steady progress,” he said.
On the recent court ruling extending the tenure of local government chairmen in Plateau State, Zi expressed mixed views, stating that the outcome would depend on the intentions behind the decision.
Commenting on the Electoral Act, he described it as progressive but warned that its success depends on the integrity of those implementing it, particularly regarding electronic transmission of results.
Speaking on his senatorial ambition, Zi pledged to provide quality representation for Plateau North, promising to be accessible and responsive to constituents’ needs.
He added that his legal background would enable him to advocate effectively for fair distribution of development projects and resources across the region.
