Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is set to preach at Lambeth Palace on Thursday as part of events marking President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to the United Kingdom.
Lambeth Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, is a key centre of the Church of England. During her visit, the First Lady is also expected to meet with church representatives, reflecting her strong involvement in faith-based initiatives.
According to the official itinerary published by Agence France-Presse, Mrs Tinubu’s engagement forms part of a broader programme combining diplomacy with cultural and religious outreach.
The visit marks Nigeria’s first state visit to the United Kingdom in nearly 40 years, highlighting renewed efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. President Tinubu and the First Lady arrived in London on Tuesday via Stansted Airport ahead of a series of high-level engagements.
Key events include meetings with Charles III and Keir Starmer. The itinerary also features interactions with members of the Nigerian diaspora, one of the largest African communities in the UK.
Mrs Tinubu, an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has remained active in religious and social initiatives. In recent years, she has focused on women’s empowerment and community development, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Her scheduled sermon at Lambeth Palace is expected to underscore the role of faith in leadership while further strengthening cultural and diplomatic connections between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
