Nyesom Wike has ordered the demolition of an estate illegally constructed on a designated green area in Guzape, Abuja, during a routine inspection of ongoing projects in the capital on Monday.
The minister explained that the plot, originally allocated for park and recreation purposes, was unlawfully converted into residential use without approval. Wike said the allocation would be revoked and stressed that the FCT Administration would strictly enforce planning regulations in accordance with the Abuja Master Plan.
“People think that government will come and go and they will continue what they are doing. We will not allow that here. It does not matter who is involved; we will do the right thing,” Wike said.
He added that some developers exploit bureaucratic loopholes and conspire with insiders in government agencies to obtain approvals for illegal projects, but assured that such practices would not deter the administration from enforcing the law.
In addition to addressing illegal developments, Wike inspected major road projects across the FCT, including the Renewed Hope City road linking Karsana to Kubwa, Arteria Road N16 from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, Airport Road to Kuje Highway, and Kuje Road to Gwagwalada.
Describing the quality of work as “impressive,” he expressed confidence that several projects would be completed in time for the celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third year in office.
“You cannot have a good transport system without connectivity and a strong road network. When there is good road infrastructure, transport becomes easy and efficient,” Wike said, highlighting the Administration’s focus on mobility and community development.
He reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to enforce planning regulations while delivering infrastructure that improves connectivity and enhances the quality of life across the territory.
