Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday commissioned several electrification projects in the Badagry axis, highlighting the state government’s commitment to addressing longstanding electricity challenges and supporting socio-economic development.

The projects include three HC Tower Crossings, the newly rehabilitated 33KV distribution lines along the Gaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridors, and the connection of fifty-one transformer substations. These initiatives are designed to improve power reliability for thousands of homes, businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities across the area.

Represented by Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Governor said the projects are more than infrastructure investments—they aim to restore confidence, unlock opportunities, and bring lasting relief to communities that have long awaited improved electricity supply.

“This intervention aligns strongly with our THEMES+ Development Agenda, particularly our commitment to expanding energy access and building resilient infrastructure that supports economic growth across every part of Lagos State,” he said. “With the recent inauguration of the Board of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Lagos is positioning itself to regulate and expand electricity supply more effectively, ensuring that infrastructure investments such as this deliver lasting benefits to our people.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that improved power supply would enable traders to extend business hours, boost productivity for artisans and small manufacturers, and enhance the functionality of schools and healthcare facilities, ultimately raising the standard of living for residents.

The Governor also emphasized Badagry’s strategic importance as a historic town and a border corridor linking Nigeria to the Republic of Benin and West Africa, describing it as a gateway with immense potential for trade and commerce. He urged residents to protect the new infrastructure from vandalism and take collective ownership to ensure its sustainability.

Hon. Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, in his goodwill message, praised the projects as a testament to the visionary leadership of the Lagos State Government and highlighted the anticipated boost to economic activities, security, and living standards.

Earlier, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, said the projects address long-standing power challenges, strengthen distribution capacity, and enhance electricity access in the communities. Special Adviser on Mineral Resources, Abiola Olowu, added that the milestone reflects the government’s dedication to critical power infrastructure to support sustainable socio-economic growth across Badagry and Lagos State.
