Google has announced the rollout of several new Gemini-powered artificial intelligence features across its productivity tools, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Drive.
The update introduces AI capabilities designed to help users create and edit content faster without needing to leave the apps or switch to external chatbots.
“Help me create” for faster document drafting
One of the key additions to Docs is a new “Help me create” feature. With it, users can simply describe the type of content they want, and Gemini will generate a fully formatted first draft.
The tool can also pull relevant information from Gmail, Google Chat, and files stored in Drive to build documents automatically.
For example, a user could request Gemini to draft a newsletter using meeting minutes and upcoming events stored in their Google Workspace files.
AI editing and tone matching
After generating a draft, Gemini can assist users in refining specific sections without rewriting the entire document.
Using the existing “Help me write” tool, users can improve clarity, expand ideas, or add missing details.
Google also introduced a “Match writing style” feature. This tool helps unify documents written by multiple contributors by suggesting edits that align tone and voice throughout the content.
Smart formatting and templates
Another new feature, “Match the format,” allows users to replicate the structure and layout of another document.
For instance, if a user finds a travel itinerary template they like, Gemini can automatically populate it with relevant information — such as flight confirmations, hotel bookings, and car rental details — by pulling data from emails.
AI deeply integrated into Workspace
The new capabilities signal Google’s continued push to integrate AI directly into everyday productivity tools, making them more personalized and efficient for both individuals and teams.
By embedding Gemini into Workspace apps, the company aims to allow users to complete complex tasks — from drafting documents to organizing data — without leaving the platforms they already use.
