The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a revision and expansion of services on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) in response to growing passenger demand along the corridor linking the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
In a statement signed by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation said the new timetable will take effect from Friday, March 6, 2026.
According to the NRC, the expanded schedule is designed to offer commuters more travel options, enhance operational flexibility, and improve service delivery on one of Nigeria’s most patronised rail routes.
The revised timetable varies across the week to accommodate different travel patterns.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, two services will operate daily, with departures from Idu at 8:45 a.m. and returns from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.
On Fridays and Sundays, three trips will run, departing Idu at 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., while trains will leave Rigasa at 11:30 a.m.
For Saturdays and Mondays, three services are scheduled. Trains will depart Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., while departures from Idu are set for 11:00 a.m. All services will make scheduled stops at Kubwa.
The NRC noted that the corridor had faced operational setbacks in recent years. These include the March 28, 2022, bomb attack and the August 26, 2025, derailment, which temporarily reduced available rolling stock, slowed train speeds, and limited the number of daily trips.
With improved stability and sustained passenger demand, the corporation said it is restoring and expanding operations to better serve commuters.
Passengers have been advised to take note of the new schedule and plan their journeys accordingly as the NRC intensifies efforts to improve capacity, reliability, safety, and overall travel experience across its rail network.
