Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has expressed readiness to collaborate with members of the State House of Assembly for the overall benefit of the people.
Fubara made the pledge while congratulating Ukalikpe Napoleon and Loolo Bulabari Henrietta, winners of the recent bye-elections in Ahoada East and Khana State constituencies.
The polls, conducted on Saturday, February 21, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were held to fill vacant seats in the Assembly.
Both winners contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Napoleon clinched victory in Ahoada East State Constituency II, while Henrietta emerged winner in Khana State Constituency II.
Describing their victories as well-deserved, the governor urged the new lawmakers to justify the confidence reposed in them by their constituents.
“It is the beauty of democracy. When the people believe in your capacity, they will give you their votes,” Fubara said.
“I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly for the progress of our state.”
The governor also commended residents of Ahoada East and Khana for their peaceful conduct before, during and after the elections. He described their orderly behaviour as a reflection of democratic maturity and a positive signal for the state’s political future.
