Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said Israel is facing “complex and challenging days” as tensions rise between the United States and Iran following President Donald Trump’s threat of military action should Tehran refuse a new nuclear agreement.
Addressing lawmakers in parliament, Netanyahu stressed Israel’s preparedness for any scenario, warning Iran’s leadership of severe consequences in the event of an attack.
“I have conveyed to the ayatollah regime that if they make the gravest mistake in their history and attack the State of Israel, we will respond with a force they cannot even imagine,” he said.
Netanyahu highlighted the strengthening of military ties with the US amid the escalating situation, saying, “The alliance with the United States has never been closer… Between the Israel Defense Forces and the United States military, between our security agencies and their security services, there has never been anything like this.”
Israel and Iran, long-time regional adversaries, clashed directly last June during a 12-day conflict in which Israel targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities and ballistic missile arsenal. Iran retaliated with drone and missile strikes, prompting the United States to join Israeli efforts against Iran’s underground nuclear sites.
Netanyahu’s remarks come as global attention focuses on the potential fallout of renewed US-Iran tensions and the stability of the Middle East.
