The management of Greensprings School, Lagos, has clarified that it did not receive any security threat prior to its early closure on January 22, 2026.

The school explained that the decision to close early was a precautionary measure taken solely because of its proximity to other schools that reportedly received security threats.

An earlier report by The PUNCH had listed Greensprings among schools that temporarily shut down after receiving threatening WhatsApp messages from unknown sources.

However, in a statement issued on Monday, the school’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Chukwuemeka Anyiam-Osigwe, said Greensprings was not a recipient of any such threat.

He noted that only the Anthony Campus closed early for the day, while other campuses continued academic activities as normal.

“Greensprings School was not one of the schools that received any security threat,” the statement said.
“Upon becoming aware of reports involving nearby schools that allegedly received threats, Greensprings School took a precautionary decision to close early for the day only at its Anthony Campus, based solely on proximity considerations.”

The statement added that other campuses, including Awoyaya, were not close to the affected schools and therefore remained open following internal safety assessments.

The school further stressed that the decision was campus-specific and should not be interpreted as a blanket directive affecting all its campuses.

“At no point did Mrs Lai Koiki state or imply that all Greensprings School campuses would close early,” the statement said, adding that activities continued as normal at the Awoyaya Campus.

Greensprings also noted that it operates multiple campuses, including boarding facilities, and makes decisions based on location-specific risk assessments and verified information.
