NIHOTOUR, FAAN Light Up Abuja Airport with “Service in Motion” Flash Mob to Celebrate Customer Service Week

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), in collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), brought excitement and national pride to travelers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as both agencies staged a surprise “Service in Motion” Flash Mob to mark the 2025 Customer Service Week.

The lively activation featured NIHOTOUR trainees and FAAN personnel who turned the busy terminal into a colorful showcase of Nigerian culture, rhythm, and service excellence — drawing cheers, applause, and spontaneous participation from passengers.

“We are redefining what service means in Nigeria,” said Dr. Abisoye Fagade, Director-General of NIHOTOUR. “Service is not just a duty it is a culture, a rhythm, and an identity. This flash mob symbolizes how deeply hospitality lives in our people, and how Nigeria can lead Africa in service excellence.”

Videos of the performance quickly went viral on social media, earning praise for “bringing joy and humanity back to public institutions.”

The Abuja activation exemplifies a new model of creative public engagement within the Federal Ministry of Tourism’s service transformation agenda, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Vision, which emphasizes innovation, youth inclusion, and excellence in government service delivery.

Under Dr. Fagade’s leadership, NIHOTOUR has become a hub for tourism training, digital upskilling, and service innovation, with the “Service in Motion” campaign serving as a vibrant reminder of the Institute’s mission to professionalize Nigeria’s tourism workforce and rekindle national pride through hospitality.

Speaking on the collaboration, FAAN Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, praised NIHOTOUR’s creativity and reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience nationwide.

“Customer service is at the heart of aviation,” she said. “Today’s activation reminds our staff and citizens alike that service with a smile is the best form of national branding.”

NIHOTOUR continues to lead efforts to promote professionalism across Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism ecosystem from culinary arts and hotel management to customer service certification.

The “Service in Motion” flash mob stands as a symbol of unity, optimism, and national reawakening, proving that government institutions can inspire and engage the public through creativity, dignity, and joy.

The collaboration between NIHOTOUR and FAAN underscores the federal government’s renewed commitment to positioning Nigeria as Africa’s tourism and service powerhouse through people-centered leadership, inter-agency synergy, and continuous innovation.
