Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped one place in the September edition of the FIFA Men’s World Ranking, dropping from 44th to 45th in the world.
Figures published on FIFA’s official website showed Nigeria accumulated 1,483 points in the latest ranking, down slightly from 1,484 points recorded in July.
The dip comes after a mixed run of results during the review period. The Eagles drew once against South Africa, secured two victories against Rwanda (1–0) and Congo (2–0), but suffered heavy defeats to Sudan (4–0) and Senegal (1–0).
On the African continent, Nigeria now occupies 6th position, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Globally, Spain overtook Argentina to claim top spot for the first time since 2014, ending the South American champions’ 17-month reign at No. 1. Slovakia was the biggest mover, leaping 10 places to 42nd after an impressive run of results.
FIFA noted that more than 200 international matches were contested worldwide since the July update, significantly reshaping the global ranking table.
