Newcastle United have moved closer to signing Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade in a club-record deal, a move that could clear the path for Alexander Isak to join Liverpool before the transfer window closes.
According to Sky Sports on Friday, Woltemade is expected to arrive on Tyneside tonight and undergo a medical on Friday, with Newcastle set to pay £64.86m (€75m) plus £4.3m (€5m) in add-ons, taking the package above £69m. This surpasses the £63m the Magpies paid for Isak three years ago.
Newcastle had previously insisted that Isak would only be sold if a replacement was secured. With Woltemade’s imminent arrival, that condition now appears fulfilled.
Liverpool, who had a £110m plus add-ons bid rejected earlier this summer, are preparing a fresh British-record offer to land the Swedish forward. Isak has reportedly told Newcastle he does not intend to play for the club again and has yet to feature this season.
Once Woltemade completes his move to St James’ Park, all eyes will be on Liverpool to see if they push through with their record-breaking bid.
