President Bola Tinubu has directed the Ministers of Budget and Finance, alongside the Head of the Federal Civil Service, to explore urgent measures to reduce the economic impact of the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran on Nigerians.
The directive was issued on Friday during a civic reception in Yenagoa, where the President also commissioned several state projects executed by the administration of Governor Douye Diri.
Tinubu said the government is aware of rising fuel prices and broader economic pressures linked to global geopolitical tensions, noting that efforts are underway to ease hardship on citizens.
“I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard,” he said, adding that the administration would work with relevant ministries to review economic data and propose mitigation strategies.
The President stated that his government remains committed to ensuring that governance translates into tangible benefits such as infrastructure, jobs, and improved living conditions.
“Regardless of their shenanigans, the All Progressives Congress believes that the people deserve to see governance translated into roads, bridges, power, jobs and real opportunities,” he said.
He also commended Governor Diri for infrastructure projects aligned with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing them as transformative and impactful for local communities.
Tinubu highlighted the importance of federal-state collaboration in driving development, saying such partnerships are essential for accelerating economic growth and service delivery.
During the visit, the President inaugurated several projects, including a 60-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Elebele, the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, and the new Yenagoa City Road.
Governor Diri said the projects were made possible in part by federal policy support, including approvals that enabled the importation of key power equipment for the state’s energy initiative.
He described the developments as a major step toward improving electricity supply, boosting economic activity, and enhancing living standards in Bayelsa State.
The governor also outlined ongoing infrastructure projects, including a proposed stadium, a new state secretariat complex, and additional road networks aimed at improving connectivity across the state.
Tinubu observed a minute of silence in honour of fallen military personnel and former Bayelsa governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha during the event.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to energy reforms, noting that improved power supply remains central to national development goals.
He assured Nigerians that the government will continue working with economic managers to cushion the effects of global shocks on domestic prices and living standards.
