President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to former lawmaker and prominent Lagos politician, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, on the occasion of her birthday.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, the President also felicitated with Okoya-Thomas ahead of her forthcoming installation as the Otun Iyalode of Lagos. The chieftaincy title will be conferred by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akinolu, on January 24.
President Tinubu described the honour as well-deserved, noting that it reflects Okoya-Thomas’s longstanding commitment to women’s empowerment, public service, and support for traditional institutions in Lagos.
Recalling her political career, the President highlighted that Okoya-Thomas, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader in Lagos State, represented Lagos Island Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for three consecutive terms between 2003 and 2015. During this period, she made significant contributions to legislative work and constituency development.
The President commended her consistent advocacy for increased women’s participation in politics and governance, describing her career as marked by dedication, resilience, and service to the people of Lagos State.
According to President Tinubu, the conferment of the Otun Iyalode title is a fitting recognition of Okoya-Thomas’s efforts to uplift women and strengthen community leadership within the state. He also wished her long life and good health while praying for a successful and memorable chieftaincy ceremony.
