The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has criticised the protest staged by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the recent approval of a ₦300 billion loan requested by Governor Seyi Makinde, describing it as “an act of irresponsibility.”
The Oyo State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, approved the loan request last month. However, dissent arose when Ibrahim Shittu, lawmaker representing Saki West, disputed the legitimacy of the approval. Shittu claimed that no plenary session took place and insisted the required two-thirds quorum of lawmakers was not present.
In response, APC members staged a protest in Ibadan on Monday, demanding transparency and accountability in the loan process.
Reacting on Tuesday, PDP spokesperson Michael Ogunsina dismissed the demonstration, saying it lacked substance and was politically motivated.
“The protest was clearly orchestrated by unscrupulous individuals. It holds no weight. If the protesters are seeking employment, they should consider applying to the Oyo State Government,” Ogunsina said in a chat with Vanguard.
He further criticised the protesters’ conduct, questioning the rationale behind their action:
“What reasonable individuals wake up in the morning only to roam the streets in protest over a matter properly handled by the executive and legislature? Something is clearly wrong within the APC in Oyo State.”
Ogunsina reaffirmed the PDP’s support for Governor Makinde, stressing that the loan request and its approval followed due process.
“Governor Makinde has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the progress of Oyo State, and the PDP stands firmly behind his administration,” he added.
