The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress, dismissing widespread speculation on social media about his political allegiance.
Fubara made the clarification on Wednesday after inspecting the reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, which has been converted into a general hospital.
He stated that he remains a member of the APC and urged the public to disregard what he described as misleading interpretations circulating online.
“I’m a member of the All Progressives Congress, and nothing has changed,” he said, adding that he has not defected or altered his political affiliation.
The governor stressed that misinformation should not be used to misrepresent his position, insisting that his loyalty to the party remains intact.
Beyond the political clarification, Fubara highlighted the importance of the newly upgraded healthcare facility, describing it as a response to critical gaps in local healthcare access.
He explained that during an earlier assessment, the administration discovered that residents in the area had limited access to medical services, with the nearest major facility being the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
According to him, this prompted the decision to remodel the psychiatric hospital into a general hospital to serve surrounding communities more effectively.
The governor said the project reflects his administration’s focus on delivering infrastructure that directly improves the welfare and living standards of residents.
He added that the completion of the hospital marks the fulfilment of a key promise to expand healthcare access across Rivers State.
The development comes amid heightened political speculation in the state, though Fubara maintained that governance remains his priority over political distractions.
