COAS Celebrates Eid with Wounded Soldiers
Kaduna – On Sunday, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), hosted a special Eid-el-Fitr luncheon for wounded soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna. He praised the soldiers for their dedication and resilience in the face of injury, assuring them that their sacrifices were appreciated and not forgotten.
Pledging Continued Progress in Security Operations
Oluyede, represented by the Commander Infantry Corps, Maj.-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim, praised the soldiers for their efforts in Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fansanyamma. He acknowledged that many soldiers were injured during operations in Nigeria’s northeast and northwest regions. Oluyede committed to continuing the fight for national security, stating, “We are making significant gains, and we will not stop until Nigeria is fully secured.” He also highlighted the success of operations in clearing the corridor from Kano to Abuja.
Security Gains in the Region
Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding 1 Division, addressed the event, noting the ongoing volatility and unpredictability in the division’s area of responsibility. Despite this, he pointed out improvements in security along key roads and rail corridors, such as the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari and Abuja-Kaduna routes. Saraso also credited the success to proactive measures, including the rescue of kidnapped victims and the surrender of bandits.
Honoring the Troops’ Sacrifices
Saraso stressed the importance of maintaining troop morale, emphasizing that the luncheon served as an appreciation for the soldiers’ hard work. “This event shows our commitment to securing the area and eliminating terrorist safe havens,” he said.
Soldiers’ Welfare Recognized
Brig.-Gen. Godwin Ogoh, Acting Chief Medical Director, thanked the COAS for prioritizing soldiers’ welfare. He described the luncheon as a message of solidarity and respect for those who serve the nation. “Your courage and sacrifice inspire us all,” Ogoh concluded.
