President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday. According to the statement, the appointment is expected to strengthen ongoing reforms in the power sector, enhance grid stability and attract sustainable investment.
The nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation, following the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is described as a fiscal and economic reform expert with over three decades of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, governance and institutional transformation.
Currently, Tegbe is the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating development efforts between Nigeria and China.
He is also reported to have experience in regulatory and institutional reforms within the power sector, including engagements with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
According to the presidency, the minister-designate is expected to leverage his expertise to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s electricity sector if confirmed.
