Nigeria’s top policymakers, financial regulators, banking executives, fintech innovators, economists and capital market operators will converge in Lagos on September 19 and 20, 2026, for the 36th Anniversary Annual Conference of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN).
The two-day conference, themed “Building on the Gains of Recapitalisation, Tax Reform and Fintech Revolution,” will take place at Orchid Hotels, Dreamworld Africana Way, Lekki.
The conference will focus on major reforms reshaping Nigeria’s financial landscape and examine how they can support stronger economic growth, attract investment, expand financial inclusion and improve the resilience of the financial sector.
Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, Deputy Governor for Corporate Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria, is expected to deliver the keynote address, while Dr. Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of United Bank for Africa, will serve as guest speaker.
Panel sessions will feature representatives from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, Fintech Association of Nigeria, Opay Digital Services Limited, Providus Bank and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria.
The discussions will examine issues around banking recapitalisation, tax reforms and the rapid growth of financial technology in Nigeria.
FICAN Chairman, Chima Titus Nwokoji, described the conference as a strategic platform for reviewing ongoing reforms and developing practical measures to sustain economic growth.
“This year’s conference comes at a defining moment for Nigeria’s economy. Banking recapitalisation, tax reforms and the rapid expansion of financial technology are reshaping the financial services landscape,” Nwokoji said.
He added that the association aims to bring policymakers, regulators and industry leaders together to assess the progress of the reforms and develop recommendations capable of deepening financial stability, promoting inclusive growth and strengthening investor confidence.
Nwokoji noted that FICAN comprises about 150 journalists and editors covering Nigeria’s financial industry across print, electronic and online platforms.
According to him, the association has spent 36 years promoting responsible financial journalism and contributing to informed public discourse on economic policies and developments.
Participants at this year’s conference are expected to examine ways to sustain investor confidence, strengthen financial stability, accelerate digital innovation and ensure that economic reforms deliver tangible benefits to businesses and Nigerians.
The programme will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions and interactive sessions involving experts from the banking, insurance, capital market, fintech and public sectors.
Key areas of discussion will include the implementation of the banking recapitalisation programme, the impact of Nigeria’s new tax regime, the development of financial technology, the future of digital payments, financial inclusion, capital market development, insurance penetration, foreign investment and long-term economic resilience.
FICAN said the conference is expected to produce a communiqué containing concrete recommendations for government, regulators and industry operators on sustaining reforms, attracting investment, expanding financial inclusion and strengthening Nigeria’s financial sector.
The gathering will also provide opportunities for policymakers, regulators, investors, financial institutions, corporate executives, development partners and media practitioners to network, exchange ideas and explore potential areas of collaboration.
According to the organisers, Nigeria is at a critical stage in its economic transformation, with reforms in banking, taxation, financial technology and broader macroeconomic management presenting both opportunities and policy challenges.
FICAN said sustained engagement among regulators, industry operators, investors and policymakers will be crucial to consolidating the gains of ongoing reforms and supporting sustainable national growth.
The annual FICAN conference has over the years developed into a major platform for high-level policy dialogue on Nigeria’s financial system and wider economic development.
