The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,542 personnel across Edo State to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Edo State Commandant, Saidi Akintayo, announced the deployment during a press briefing at the Corps’ headquarters in Benin City.
He said the exercise was carried out in line with directives from the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Audi, and the agency’s mandate to protect lives, critical infrastructure, and national assets.
According to him, personnel drawn from tactical teams, counter-terrorism units, intelligence and investigation departments, armed squads, Agro Rangers, and other specialised formations have been strategically deployed across the state.
Security operatives have been stationed at Eid prayer grounds, marketplaces, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, worship centres, and other identified vulnerable locations to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Akintayo directed area commanders and divisional officers to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the festive period.
He also commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for supporting security agencies, noting that inter-agency cooperation has improved safety across the state.
The commandant warned criminal elements to stay away from Edo State, stressing that the Corps is fully prepared to respond decisively to any threat to public peace.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
Akintayo also extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslim faithful, encouraging them to embrace the values of sacrifice, peace, unity, and tolerance associated with the celebration.
