The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Thursday sealed two additional real estate firms over alleged consumer complaints involving property delivery and refund disputes.
The affected firms, Ochacho Group Worldwide and Ti-Bilon, were shut down during an enforcement operation carried out jointly with security operatives.
According to the Commission, the action followed the companies’ alleged failure to comply with compliance notices and directives earlier issued by the FCCPC.
The latest enforcement action comes weeks after the Commission sealed the office of Paradise Estate in Life Camp Extension, Abuja, over alleged violations of consumer rights.
Speaking during the operation, the FCCPC’s Deputy Director of Surveillance and Enforcement, Marvin Nadah, said the Commission had issued lawful directives requiring the firms to take corrective actions regarding consumer complaints.
He explained that the entities failed to comply with the Commission’s orders despite several engagements and notices.
According to Nadah, one of the cases involved a consumer who paid for properties that were not delivered, while another concerned a refund matter in which the Commission had directed the company involved to refund the affected consumer.
He stated that the FCCPC Act empowers the Commission to seal business premises where companies fail to comply with official compliance notices.
The official disclosed that one of the companies had been under notice since June last year, while the other had been under investigation since 2024.
He added that discussions were held with both firms before the enforcement action, but they allegedly continued to ignore the Commission’s directives.
Nadah warned that prosecution could follow if the affected firms still fail to comply with the FCCPC’s orders.
During the operation, FCCPC officials reportedly ordered staff members to vacate the premises after the firms allegedly refused to honour invitations from the Commission.
Attempts to obtain comments from one of the companies were unsuccessful, as the team leader was said to be absent during the enforcement exercise.
The FCCPC has recently intensified enforcement activities against companies accused of violating consumer rights.
The Commission previously sealed the Abuja office of TLSContact over alleged obstruction of investigations and unresolved consumer complaints.
In another case, the FCCPC sealed the headquarters of Ikeja Electric in Lagos over alleged consumer rights violations.
Responding to the matter at the time, Ikeja Electric’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, explained that the dispute involved a customer requesting multiple electricity meters after converting a property previously operating as a hotel into residential apartments.
According to him, implementing such changes requires a more complex technical and regulatory process.
The Commission also recently inaugurated a Joint Market Monitoring Taskforce in Abuja with powers to seal shops, warehouses, and outlets found selling unsafe or substandard products as part of broader efforts to strengthen consumer protection and market oversight nationwide.
