The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned the alleged terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, until March 10, 2026.
The adjournment followed an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo. He asked the court for more time to enable the prosecution to properly study the case file.
Oyedepo told the court that the matter was recently transferred from the Department of State Services to the Department of Public Prosecutions. He said the transfer made it necessary for him to familiarise himself with the facts of the case before proceeding to trial.
Counsel for the defendants, Mr Adedayo Adedeji, did not oppose the application for adjournment. However, he urged the court to strike out the case if the prosecution fails to commence trial on the next adjourned date. He alleged a lack of diligent prosecution.
In her ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the request and adjourned the matter until March 10, 2026, for trial. She also directed the prosecution to open its case on the next hearing date.
The case is expected to resume with the prosecution presenting its arguments and evidence before the court.
